England National Team Asked to Replace Bukayo Saka with Cole Palmer at Euro 2024, While It’s On Fire!
Former Manchester United player, Michael Owen, emphasized that the England national team must replace Bukayo Saka with Cole Palmer at Euro 2024 in Germany.
Saka this season with Arsenal, has scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions this season.
The 21-year-old scored 16 goals in the Premier League, making him the first English striker since Ian Wright to score 15 league goals for Arsenal in a single season.
However, Saka is not the only young English player who has shown good performance this season.
Even though Chelsea are in decline this season, striker Cole Palmer has recorded 24 goals and 13 assists in 42 appearances in various competitions for the Blues.
Seeing the development of these two young English players has made former Manchester United player, Michael Owen, of the opinion that Palmer is more worthy of being a starter in Gareth Southgate’s team than Saka.
“I will now play Cole Palmer instead of Bukayo Saka. I don’t think you can ignore Palmer’s performance and quality any longer,” said Owen, quoted from Sportskeeda, Tuesday (7/5/2024).
“Now he is one of the best players in the Premier League. He might even get the Best Player Award, maybe even the Golden Boot, and that’s on a team that is struggling,” he continued.
The former Manchester United and England national team player revealed that Palmer will always be in his thoughts.
Owen even imagined that the 22 year old player would appear with several other English players.
“So he must now be in my thoughts,” he said/
“I will play him on the right side. I’ll have Foden and him, one on the right and one in the middle, then Rice as the number 6, then Bellingham and Foden as the numbers 8 and 10 and Cole on the right.”
Only 2 Caps
Palmer has only made two appearances for the Three Lions’ senior team so far, since his debut in November 2023. Meanwhile, Saka, who made his debut in 2020, has so far made 32 appearances for the Three Lions, recording 11 goals and seven assists.
Saka has a lot of experience, as at Euro 2020 he played four matches in the competition and scored one goal.
Although he made a mistake in the final, after causing his team to lose because he missed a penalty in the shootout against Italy.
He was also one of Gareth Southgate’s key players at the 2022 World Cup, scoring three goals in five appearances, before England were knocked out by France.
