Complete Europa League Semifinal Results: AS Roma Almost Makes a Surprise, Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta are in the Final!

It is certain that the Europa League final will bring together Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta. This certainty follows the results of the second leg of the Europa League semi-final which was held on Friday (10/5/2024) early morning WIB.

In the second leg of the Europa League semifinals, Bayer Leverkusen and AS Roma drew 2-2 at BayArena. Meanwhile, Atalanta managed to win 3-0 over Olympique Marseille.

Bayer Leverkusen advanced to the Europa League final with a 4-2 aggregate win, while Atalanta advanced to the top match with a 4-1 aggregate win.

Bayer Leverkusen hosted AS Roma with a 2-0 aggregate lead thanks to victory in the first leg of the semi-final at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome last week. This advantage makes the Bundesliga champions quite optimistic that they can qualify for the final.

However, AS Roma seemed to get lucky at Leverkusen headquarters at the start of the match until they finally had to be sad.

AS Roma received two penalties which were successfully completed by Leandro Paredes who scored two penalties from the penalty spot.

The first penalty was awarded to AS Roma in the 43rd minute after Leverkusen captain Jonathan Tah pulled down Sardar Azmoun before Romelu Lukaku headed the ball when receiving a cross.

Then AS Roma’s second penalty was scored in the 66th minute. A penalty was awarded because a handball occurred in the Leverkusen penalty box. The referee checked VAR and finally decided to give AS Roma a penalty.

Unfortunately, AS Roma’s joy in scoring two goals at Leverkusen headquarters and equalizing the aggregate at 2-2 could not last until the end of the match.

AS Roma actually conceded due to an own goal because the corner kick failed to be cleared by goalkeeper Mile Svilar and instead hit Gianluca Mancini’s face which sent the ball into the goal.

In injury time, Bayer Leverkusen managed to make it 2-2. Precisely in the 90’+7 minute, Josip Stanisic maximized a pass from Granit Xhaka to score Leverkusen’s second goal in this match.

The 2-2 draw lasted until the match was over. Bayer Leverkusen has the right to qualify for the Europa League final with a 4-2 aggregate win.

In the final match of the Europa League, Bayer Leverkusen will again face the Italian club, Atalanta, who managed to win 3-0 when they hosted Olympique Marseille at Gewiss Stadium and have the right to qualify for the final with a 4-1 aggregate.

Atalanta achieved a 3-0 victory in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final starting with a goal scored by Ademola Lookman in the 30th minute after maximizing a pass from Charles de Ketelaere.

Then Lookman gave a pass to Matteo Ruggeri who scored Atalanta’s second goal in the 52nd minute. Meanwhile, Atalanta’s final winning goal was scored by El Bilal Toure during injury time.

The Portuguese club held the longest unbeaten record since the start of European competition, according to UEFA, until Bayer Leverkusen’s current extraordinary season.

A place in the 2023/2024 Europa League final will be at stake when Bayer Leverkusen and AS Roma clash at BayArena, Friday (10/5/2024).

Atalanta hosted Marseille at Gewiss Stadium, Bergamo, in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final, Friday (10/5/2024) early morning WIB. Playing at home, Atalanta was armed with the flashy capital to beat Marseille and qualify for the final.

Both teams failed to win in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final at the Orange Velodrome, Marseille, 3 May. Atalanta and Marseille had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

These results make the chances for both teams to advance to the Europa League final this season equally great. Because, the Europa League no longer applies the away goals rule since the 2021/2022 season.

If they succeed in silencing Marseille and qualifying for the Europa League final this season, Atalanta will advance to the top of the European tournament for the first time.
